Cave bear paw bone necklace with a mammoth ivory toggle

This paw bone is from the extinct cave bear, a distant relative of the modern day grizzly bear.
There has been lots of archeological evidence found to show that Neanderthal and this species of bear lived closely together. Their bones have been found near each other in caves thought to have been inhabited by Neanderthal. There has been speculation about an early bear cult due to some finds potentially pointing towards bear skulls having been placed in a position of importance within a cave that was excavated in Europe.
Along with this, there has been plenty of evidence found that our early ancestors also would adorn themselves with the bones and teeth of this animal - whether it be for religious reason or hunting trophies, we will never know. But the images I’ve seen of necklaces like this that have been found within those caves are some that have been burnt deeply in my being.

NB: Cave bear teeth not included in the price.
